Financial Planning – Behavioral Coaching
One of the most disruptive forces on investment performance is investor behavior. Investor behavior is often dictated by the most basic human emotion of fear. Studies show that fear produces an emotional response that is three times stronger than other emotions. This often causes investors to change their investment approach in reaction to difficult headlines. These changes often coincide with times when the markets are down which means that such behavior translates into selling investments at low points which clearly undermine results. Helping individuals understand their investments, the markets and the economy is paramount to helping them avoid undermining their own investment results due to human emotions.
At Nelson Financial Planning, we believe in educating and coaching our clients on a regular basis using a variety of methods. On a weekly basis we host a broadcast “Dollars and Sense” that airs live every Sunday at 9AM on 93.1FM with a simulcast on 540 AM and is available on, among other platforms, iTunes, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and LinkedIn. On a minimum of a bi-monthly basis, we provide timely personal insights in regard to the headlines via email to our clients and posting throughout the various social media channels. Our series of quarterly educational events and our annual client appreciation events provide valuable information. Clients also receive regular office meetings for a personal review of their financial situation. This systematic proactive communication process helps investors manage their emotions and not make mistakes with their investments.
